Housing Update 3-17-20

Earlier you received an email from President Morgan which provided new information regarding the university’s efforts to comply with emerging public health recommendations.  As stated in President Morgan’s message, the university will be closing the residence halls effective March 27, 2020. We anticipate that the guidelines below will help facilitate a move out process that is as smooth and as calm as possible given this unique situation.

In an effort to make this process as efficient as possible, and to limit traffic bottlenecks and lengthy delays, we are asking students to adhere to the following check out schedule to retrieve their belongings, clear their rooms, and return their housing keys:
  • Monday 3/23: Normal Hall Apartments, Nunn Hall, Fields Hall
  • Tuesday 3/24: Cartmell Hall, East Mignon Hall, Eagle Lake Apartments
  • Wednesday 3/25: Mignon Tower, Alumni Tower, Mays Hall Apartments
  • Thursday 3/26: Mignon Hall, Andrews Hall, West Mignon Hall
  • Friday 3/27: Alternative move out day for those unable to make their hall-specific day

Check outs will be available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily by visiting the service desk of your hall and completing an express check out on your assigned day. If the assigned day for your residence hall does not work with your schedule, you may check out on Friday, March 27, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Through this check out process we encourage residents to be mindful of prescribed strategies to limit interactions with others, including maintaining social distancing, practicing good hygiene, and regularly washings your hands through the move out process.

The Office of Student Housing has been authorized to make very limited exceptions to this closure in rare cases, including where students may not have safe and suitable alternative living arrangements, or where they have prohibitive travel restrictions or exceptional ongoing academic commitments. In order to request an exception to this directive and secure on-campus accommodation past the March 27th closure, please do the following:
  • Log into your Housing Self Service Portal through MyMoreheadState
  • Click on “Applications”
  • Select “Spring 2020 Extended Housing Request (2020SP)”
  • Complete your request and upload documents as needed to verify information

Students requesting this exception must do so no later than Monday, March 23, at 4:30 p.m. Students should receive notice of their approval or denial no later than Wednesday, March 25, at 4:30 p.m. It is likely that approvals will be relocated to a different hall in order to provide the appropriate services necessary to remain on campus. Denials should make plans to move out of their hall on Friday, March 27, by 7 p.m.

This is a challenging time for everyone within our university community and our office is mindful of the stress that this situation may cause. MSU has a backbone of resiliency and grit and will make it through this unprecedented situation by coming together as a community. If there are additional ways in which my office can support you as we navigate this process, please contact us via telephone at 606-783-2060 or via email at housing@moreheadstate.edu.

Warm regards,
Alan M. Rucker
