Staff Bios

Alan Rucker, directorRucker-Web-Headshot.jpeg

Alan Rucker has served the students of Morehead State University since 2012, currently as the director for Housing and Residence Education. With his 15 years of senior leadership experience, Alan brings his expertise in the areas of staff recruitment and development, client service and operational efficiency improvements to MSU's housing team, all of which have been topics of numerous regional and national presentations.

Originally from Henryville, Indiana, Alan spent the first decade of his higher education career at the University of Maryland, College Park, serving first as a residence life staffer and then as a transportation services senior staffer, winning the 2012 International Parking Institute's Parking Organization of the Year and being named a finalist for the 2012 National Parking Professional of the Year Award. Alan has continued that excellence at MSU, being named the 2015 Kentucky Association of Housing Officers Unbridled Spirit Award winner.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Promotion and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University, where he was awarded the 2010 Graduate of the Last Decade. He also earned a master's in Business Administration from MSU and is currently working on his Doctor of Education degree. In his free time, Alan enjoys being a rabid college athletics fan and a voracious reader.

Emily Weideman, Assistant Director

Emily Weideman joined the Housing team in January 2020. She attended Arcadia University in Glenside, PA as an Undergraduate and Keele University in Stoke-on-Trent, England to obtain her Masters in Global Security. She has previously worked in Residence Life at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, PA, San Jose State University in San Jose, CA, and Carroll College in Helena, MT. Emily grew up in the Philadelphia area, loves to cook, read, and travel, and is excited to explore and experience all Kentucky has to offer.

John Michael Haky has called Morehead home since 2015. As an assistant director, John is responsible for supervising residence hall professional staff, facilitating the University conduct process in the residence halls and providing programmatic and operational support for residence hall students and staff. Prior to coming to MSU, John served as a hall director at the University of Michigan and the University of Kentucky, as well as a residence life and student conduct coordinator at the Utah State University - Eastern Community College.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, John earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Folklore from Indiana University and a Master of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Throughout his time working in higher education as a student and as a professional, John's work with college students has been recognized by organizations like the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the Kentucky Association of Housing Officers, and the Kentucky Association of Residence Halls, and has been a recipient of Morehead State’s Distinguished Staff Service Award.

Bellande Bertrand, Hall Director

Bertrand was born in Haiti but grew up in Miami, Florida. After completing his undergrad at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, Bertrand became a residence director at Murray State University. Bertrand spent a year and a half working there before joining the Morehead State University family. Bertrand was a three-sport letter athlete at his undergrad and beside sports, during his free time he enjoys playing video games and writing poetry. Bertrand also loves to cook and has a passion for trying new things.

Anastasia Chaky, Hall Director

Anastasia Chaky joined the Morehead State housing team as a hall director in July 2019. She is responsible for overseeing approximately 900 students and 19 student staff members. She is especially passionate about academic initiatives, student success and leadership development, and strives to provide opportunities to grow and learn for her students.
Originally from Warrensburg, Missouri, Anastasia earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Central Missouri. Additionally, Anastasia earned her Masters of Science in Higher Education with a Leadership and Administration focus from Old Dominion University. Before MSU, Anastasia held positions at the University of Central Missouri, Georgia Southern University, and Old Dominion University while working in the following departments: multicultural and inclusivity, student activities, housing, admissions and recruitment, and the student success center.
Anastasia likes to spend her free time reading, exploring nature and new places, trying out new restaurants, and playing with her dog, Sinatra."


Meau Jones, hall director

Meau-Jones.jpgMeau Jones has been a member of the Morehead State family since 2018, now serving as a hall director. He is responsible for an area overseeing approximately 900 residents and 20 student staff members. He is especially passionate about assisting students with finding their why, strongly believing that nothing is worth doing without passion and enthusiasm.
Meau holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education (coaching and leadership), both from the University of Rio Grande. Before MSU, Meau held positions at the University of Rio Grande, Kentucky State University and Miami University. Meau spends his free time with his wife and son, but can also be found in the Recreation and Wellness Center most days or cheering on the MSU Eagles on the court or field.

Michael Watts has served the students of Morehead State University since July 2017, currently in a Hall Director role responsible for approximately 600 residents and 21 student staff members. Michael has previously served MSU as a student staff member in the roles of a Resident Advisor and Student Director. He is passionate about equality and civic engagement, and serves as a strong advocate for students as they transition into a residential environment.

Born in eastern Kentucky, Michael received a bachelor's in Philosophy followed by a Masters in Public Administration from MSU, where he developed a true passion for Student Affairs. In his spare time he enjoys a variety of literature, movies, and hiking with his Siberian Husky, Anakin.
