Dr. Alan Rucker has served the students of Morehead State University since 2012, currently as the director of housing and residence education. Responsible for the overall management and leadership of a 3,200-bed residential environment, he has championed the institution’s lived values of service, innovation, scholarship and promotion of diversity of people and thought.

A student affairs professional for nearly 20 years, Rucker has a lengthy track record of administrative leadership for various functional units and differing types of institutions. Immediately before his arrival to Morehead State, he served as a senior staff member of the award-winning Department of Transportation Services at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is highly involved in higher education, maintaining professional memberships in numerous organizations and serving in leadership capacities at the state, regional, and national level.

Alan obtained his doctoral degree in adult and higher education from the Ernst and Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education at Morehead State University and a Master of Business Administration from the Elmer R. Smith College of Business and Technology, also at MSU. He earned both a master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education and a bachelor’s degree in marketing and promotion from Ball State University. He has received numerous honors and awards, including Ball State University’s Graduate of the Last Decade, the inaugural Kentucky Association of Housing Officers Unbridled Spirit Award, the Kentucky Association of Housing Officers (KAHO) Ruth Ann Howard Service Award and is a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, just to name a few.

Rucker is originally from Louisville, one of three children, and is a first-generation college student. He was the first in his family to experience the traditional college transition and learned early on the transformative power of mentorship and student-first leadership for the campus and community. In his free time, Rucker enjoys spending time with his family and friends, is a voracious reader and college athletics fan, and continually confirms good boy status to his goldendoodle, Theo.
 

Emily Weideman, Assistant Director

Emily Weideman joined the Housing team in January 2020. She attended Arcadia University in Glenside, PA as an Undergraduate and Keele University in Stoke-on-Trent, England to obtain her Masters in Global Security. She has previously worked in Residence Life at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, PA, San Jose State University in San Jose, CA, and Carroll College in Helena, MT. Emily grew up in the Philadelphia area, loves to cook, read, and travel, and is excited to explore and experience all Kentucky has to offer.

John Michael Haky has called Morehead home since 2015. As an assistant director, John is responsible for supervising residence hall professional staff, facilitating the University conduct process in the residence halls and providing programmatic and operational support for residence hall students and staff. Prior to coming to MSU, John served as a hall director at the University of Michigan and the University of Kentucky, as well as a residence life and student conduct coordinator at the Utah State University - Eastern Community College.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, John earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Folklore from Indiana University and a Master of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Throughout his time working in higher education as a student and as a professional, John's work with college students has been recognized by organizations like the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the Kentucky Association of Housing Officers, and the Kentucky Association of Residence Halls, and has been a recipient of Morehead State’s Distinguished Staff Service Award.


Anastasia Chaky, Area Coordinator

 

Anastasia Chaky joined the Morehead State housing team as a hall director in July 2019. She is responsible for overseeing approximately 900 students and 19 student staff members. She is especially passionate about academic initiatives, student success and leadership development, and strives to provide opportunities to grow and learn for her students.
Originally from Warrensburg, Missouri, Anastasia earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Central Missouri. Additionally, Anastasia earned her Masters of Science in Higher Education with a Leadership and Administration focus from Old Dominion University. Before MSU, Anastasia held positions at the University of Central Missouri, Georgia Southern University, and Old Dominion University while working in the following departments: multicultural and inclusivity, student activities, housing, admissions and recruitment, and the student success center.
Anastasia likes to spend her free time reading, exploring nature and new places, trying out new restaurants, and playing with her dog, Sinatra."


Michael Watts, Area CoordinatorMike-Watts.jpg

Michael Watts has served the students of Morehead State University since July 2017, currently in a Hall Director role responsible for approximately 600 residents and 21 student staff members. Michael has previously served MSU as a student staff member in the roles of a Resident Advisor and Student Director. He is passionate about equality and civic engagement, and serves as a strong advocate for students as they transition into a residential environment.
 

Born in eastern Kentucky, Michael received a bachelor's in Philosophy followed by a Masters in Public Administration from MSU, where he developed a true passion for Student Affairs. In his spare time he enjoys a variety of literature, movies, and hiking with his Siberian Husky, Anakin.
