Community - Homecoming Float Application

Rules & Regulations
Community float entries must abide by the following rules and regulations:
  • No alcohol may be consumed prior to or during the parade procession. We make safety our highest priority and as many of our parade watchers may be young children we want to ensure we make every effort to keep all MSU fans and parade watchers safe.  MSU, and specifically Student Activities, reserves the right to prohibit anyone that has been consuming alcohol before or during the parade from participating in the parade.
  • Parade entries are responsible for their float themes as well as the people on the float or participating in a parade entry. MSU, and specifically Student Activities, reserves the right to prohibit entries and floats from participating if the theme of the entry is not suitable for all member of families that will be spectators, specifically young children.
  • All float entries must be on a flatbed trailer. NO semi-truck beds are permitted. All community entries are responsible for securing their own flatbed trailer and towing vehicle as well as a driver for their float.
  • Community floats are not permitted to be built at the designated location for campus and student organization float-building.
  • All entries must be made from non-flammable materials such as foil, crepe paper, butcher paper etc. We recommend that any parts of the float that may be damaged during the moving of the float be completed at the lineup assignment location.
  • All floats must be in the designated lineup assignment location by 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
  • For safety purposes, it is mandatory that all floats have a fire extinguisher that is full and easily accessible during the parade.
  • There can be no more than eight (8) people on a float at any time and all people on the float must be stabilized to prevent injury during the parade.
  • MSU, and specifically Student Activities, reserves the right to prohibit floats and entries that have not submitted an application from participating in the parade at the time of the parade.


  • Sept. 5 - float and entry applications available
  • Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m. - float and entry application deadline - all entries submitted after this date will be lined up at the end of the parade.
  • Oct. 10 - email with lineup and assignments sent to applicants
  • Oct. 20 - all entries must be in their assigned lineup location by 7:30 a.m.

The Office of Student Activities is still accepting submissions for parade entries, however late submissions may be placed at the back of the parade lineup due to time limitations.
