MSU is committed to the safety and health of employees. Here are the procedures for employees for COVID-19 testing, excused absences, and isolation/quarantine.
All plans are subject to change per protocols and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, the White House, the Kentucky Department of Public Health, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, and the Office of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Classrooms and common spaces are cleaned every weekday. As an extra precautionary measure, faculty and students are encouraged to use disinfecting wipes on personal use areas in classrooms.
- Offices are not cleaned and disinfected on a routine basis by Facilities Management. Office occupants are encouraged to frequently use disinfecting wipes and other cleaning products as provided by Facilities Management to clean and disinfect their personal offices and common spaces within their office suites.
Masks are optional in most campus locations, including classrooms and labs. Each student and employee may make their own decision as to whether they wear a mask or not (masks are still required in the MSU Counseling & Health Services in Allie Young Hall). Faculty and staff may request that students and other employees visiting their personal office be required to wear a mask while meeting in their office.
- If an employee receives notification that they have tested positive for COVID-19 or if they have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, they should contact their supervisor immediately.
- Supervisors who learn that an employee tested positive for COVID-19 should refer to the protocol for positive tests through a COVID-19 PCR or Rapid Test if the test was administered by a COVID test site or healthcare provider. If the employee tested positive through a COVID-19 home test, follow the protocol for positive tests through a COVID-19 home test should be followed.
- If a supervisor learns that an employee has had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 the supervisor should follow the protocol on for COVID-19 exposure.
- Supervisors should immediately inform their respective VP or President direct report of all positive COVID-19 employees in their area.
- Isolation & Quarantine Information from Team KY
MSU has transitioned away from active COVID-19 response. MSU no longer sources a COVID Support Team or Rapid Response Team. The COVID Help Line and COVID-19@moreheadstate.edu are no longer monitored for COVID response.
The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) will only provide “COVID-19 excused absences” for students who are diagnosed with COVID-19 through a CLIA-approved lab test (PCR or Antigen test administered by a test site or healthcare provider). All other circumstances will be governed by UAR 131 Excused Absence Policy. For a student to receive an excused absence because of a positive CLIA-approved lab test result, the student must complete the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form.
- The ODOS will notify the student’s instructors that the student is excused for up to 10 days.
- The student may return to class after 5 days if symptom-free and if a mask is worn. The ODOS will not send a “cleared to return to class” notification.
- If the student must extend isolation past 10 days, then the student must provide medical documentation (e.g. doctor’s note or health department notice) to the ODOS using covid-19@moreheadstate.edu.
If a student is sick or has COVID-19 symptoms, follow UAR 131.
If a student tests positive for COVID-19 using a home test, follow UAR 131. Instructors retain the discretion to accept the results of a home test to excuse a student from class. However, the student must have documentation of medical treatment (e.g., doctor’s note) to receive an excused absence from the ODOS.
