How do parents or others become authorized users?
Users gain access by a student granting permission. Once the student assigns access within Self-Service, the designated individual will receive email notification(s) indicating account creation and directions to complete the authorization process.
How does an authorized user access their student’s account?
If an authorized user has an existing
My.MoreheadState.edu account, Self-Service is accessible through that site. If an authorized user does not have an existing MSU online account, they can use the MSU username and password (sent via email) to log into Self-Service at
https://authorizeduser.moreheadstate.edu.
My authorized user never received an email about being granted authorized user access. What should I do?
The automatically generated email sent to your authorized user was copied to your (the student’s) MSU email address. Please forward this email to your authorized user’s correct email address or have the authorized user check their spam folder.
My authorized user got an email confirmation that they were setup as an authorized user, but there was no MSU username or password information. How do they gain access?
If your authorized user received a confirmation email without username and password information, that person must have an existing MSU online account and should log in using their
My.MoreheadState.edu account. To receive username/password assistance with a My.MoreheadState.edu account, please call the OIT Help Desk at 606-783-4357.
My authorized user forgot the password, what should they do?
For accounts that have previously been accessed by an authorized user, they can call the OIT Help Desk at 606-783-4357 for password reset assistance.
Can the same authorized user be assigned for multiple students?
Yes. Authorized users can be assigned as an authorized user for multiple students. This is particularly useful in the case of siblings both attending Morehead State University.
When an authorized user is given access to multiple students, can the access granted be different for each student?
Yes. Students who grants authorized user access have complete control over the access granted to their account.
How does a student change access or remove access for an authorized user?
A student can change the level of access or delete access for an authorized user by clicking on the pencil icon located on the Active Authorized Users section of the View/Add Proxy Access screen, located within Self-Service.
Will my authorized user be notified if a modification to access is made, including removing authorization?
No, there is no automatic notification sent when authorized user access is updated or deleted.
The person that I want to designate as my authorized user is not in the list of available authorized user options. What should I do?
Select “Add another user” and enter all required demographic information. Make sure the email address is correct.
An authorized user used to be able to see student information but now cannot. What happened?
The student is in control of the information that an authorized user can view. If the authorized user can no longer see information, they should contact the student.
Can an authorized user call MSU if they have questions about it?
If an authorized user has a question about the functionality of authorized user access, they should first check the Authorized User FAQ. The OIT Help Desk (606-783-4357) can be called for assistance in setting up or activating access.
Can MSU staff make updates to what an authorized user can view on a student account?
No, MSU staff and the OIT Help Desk cannot change the permission settings for authorized users. Only the student granting the access can change the permissions.
