About Tyra

My name is Tyra Pettigrew and I’m your new Morehead State Admission Counselor! In 2015, I made the life changing decision to become an MSU Eagle. Since then, I have had some of my best memories, made lifelong friends, and met my college sweetheart - David - and we are raising our own Future Eagle Aayden together. I consider being an MSU alumnus and employee an honor, and am so excited to help your students take the next steps in becoming a part of the MSU family. While I may be new, please know I am here to help! I am so excited to help you take the next steps in becoming a part of the MSU family and eager to see you soar!

Bachelor of Arts – Strategic Communication (2020)

What MSU means to me

MSU means family. There’s nothing like the people you will meet and the relationships you build.

Favorite MSU tradition

I’ve always been a big fan of Freshman Week

Favorite building on campus

Breckinridge Hall – as a Comms Major, I lived here and made so many memories in this building.

Favorite place to eat on campus

The Rock, for sure. Nobody can make a sandwich like Ms. Mary can.

Favorite thing to do in the area

I love to hike Lockegee Rock! The view is exceptional.

Favorite downtown restaurant

There’s no place like The Fuzzy Duck.

Favorite Don Señor order

Pollo Bandido with extra queso

Favorite Jimmy Johns Order

#9 Italian Night Club

My advice for seniors

Don’t feel as if you have to make a sudden decision about your future. It’s okay to be clueless. Explore your options, job shadow, and if you want to start out undecided in an academic program, that is completely fine. Let your passion lead the way, and your major will follow.

Advice for students selecting a college

Make sure to take college visits, feel free to visit a campus more than once. If you know the field of study you wish to pursue, meet with that department and establish a relationship with professors early on. Don’t just look into the fun stuff – dining, dorms, Greek life etc. Look into things such as class room sizes and academic programs offered. Most importantly, go with the college that feels like home.
