MSU's Department of Art and Design is one of the most comprehensive schools of art, design and teacher education in the state.

Graduates of our programs are able to pursue a wide array of careers in the corporate, government, non-profit and independent sectors including:

  • Art museums/galleries: administration, curatorial, conservation, public relations, exhibit design and preparation
  • Graphic design: digital, print, multimedia, type, web, illustration, advertising
  • Education P-12: studio art, fine arts, art history
  • Independent studio practice: sales, promotion, design, development, freelance
 
  

 

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Design and Art Education

MSU offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in art and design and a B.F.A. in art and design with teacher certification P-12. These professionally-oriented degrees will better equip you for entrance into master of fine arts programs within disciplines such as painting, ceramics, graphic design, animation, printmaking and photography. All art students are encouraged to apply. Interested applicants will be required to submit a portfolio and statements for review in order to gain admission into the programs.
 

In addition to our B.F.A. programs we also offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in:

  • Art (coursework in art education, ceramics, computer art, drawing graphic design, history, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture)
  • Art education (P-12)

Our Master of Arts in Art offers concentrations in:

  • Art education
  • Graphic design
  • Studio art
 

We also offer an array of minors which complement degrees across the University including arts entrepreneurship, studio art, visual communicationart history and photography.
