D.M.A., Saxophone Performance – University of Miami
M.M., Saxophone Performance – University of Miami
B.M., Music Education – Utah State University

The Morehead State University Saxophone studio is one of the largest and most competitive studios in the music school. We hover around 12-15 majors with most of us opting for the music education track and some pursuing saxophone performance, jazz studies, or commercial music. We are energetic, passionate, and exhibit a decent dose of humor. In short, we work hard and play hard. We have many opportunities to perform. Within the studio we have saxophone duets, trios, quartets and MoreSax, which is our sax-choir (compete with bass and sopranino saxophones!). We are extremely proud of the exceptionally high job placement rate among our graduates and for the last 8 years every graduate of the MSU saxophone studio who has desired to continue his/her education has received a full assistantship to study at the master’s level.
Dr. Nathan Mensink is at the helm of the studio. He has been the visiting professor of saxophone since 2018 and is in demand as a soloist and clinician across the United States and Europe. Recent performances highlights include John William's Escapades, which opened a Festival Miami program featuring Ben Folds, as well as Ralph Martino’s Gershwin Fantasy under the baton of legendary conductor Colonel Arnald Gabriel. Besides appearing at events such as the World Saxophone Congress or the International Navy Saxophone Symposium, Mensink can frequently be found performing in the local community, visiting high schools in the region, and assisting with KMEA events. As an avid fan of jazz. He has backed artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Take Six, Michael Feinstein, Kirk Whalum, Harry Watters, Dave Pietro, Corey Christiansen, Byron Stripling, and Alicia Hall Moran. Mensink is a Conn-Selmer endorsed artist/clinician.
