Flute Day

Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, flutists from across Kentucky are invited to Flute Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Baird Music Hall. Bring your flutes and join in on the fun. The event is free, but registration is required. Dr. Nicole Riner will be the flute guest artist at the event. Praised for her "luscious, full sound" (American Record Guide) and "effortless precision" (Flutist Quarterly), Riner maintains an active international presence as a recitalist and pedagogue. She has also commissioned and premiered numerous works as a soloist and chamber musician. Her live performances have been broadcast on public radio programs in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and Wyoming. She has recorded for the ACA, Centaur and Albany record labels. Riner is visiting assistant professor of flute and entrepreneurship at the University of Wyoming and an Altus Performing Artist. She also serves on the board of Flute New Music Consortium.

Flute Day Schedule:

  • 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m.: Registration 
  • 11 a.m.: Guest Artist Flute Recital in Duncan Recital Hall with Dr. Nicole Riner
  • Noon - 2 p.m.: Lunch, visit vendor and photo booths
  • 2 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.: Open Flute Choir Reading Session 
  • 2 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.: KMEA Mock Audition
  • 2 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.: Beginners and Band Directors Flute Embouchure Clinic in 121 (led by MSU Alumni)
  • 3 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.: Guest Artist Masterclass for MSU Flutists
