Maj. Johnathan Gensley

GensleyProfessor of Military Science


Maj. Jonathan D. Gensley was born in Ann Arbor, Mich.  He is the son of Mrs. Debra Bush and Mr. Dale Gensley, growing up primarily in Saline, Mich.  He is married to Jo Lisa and has a son Colton.  In 2004, he was commissioned as an engineer officer through the Michigan National Guard OCS program.  Gensley’s first assignment beginning his Army career was as a platoon leader in the 1437 Multirole Bridge Company in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.  He did an interstate transfer to the Kentucky Army National Guard in 2006.  In 2008, Maj. Gensley deployed to Afghanistan with C. Company, 20st Engineer Battalion.  Gensley’s awards and decorations include the Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Basic Military Mountaineer Badge, Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medal with V device, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Citations and Valorous Unit Citation.  Maj. Gensley has a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State and a Master’s of Science in Engineering Management from Missouri University of Science and Technology.  His military education includes Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captains Career Course, Intermediate Level Education Common Core, and Advanced Operations Course.
