Flutist Julie Baker is an active performer and instructor in the Greater Cincinnati area. Dr. Baker holds the position of Visiting Instructor of Flute at Morehead State University and was formerly Adjunct Instructor of Flute at Mount St. Joseph University.

In addition to her students at Morehead State, Dr. Baker's private teaching studio is comprised of many promising young flutists. Her students have earned prizes in the Discover Classical Rising Star competition, the Kentucky Flute Society Junior Soloist Competition, and the Central Ohio Flute Association Competitions. Additionally, Dr. Baker's students have been offered seats to perform in the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Jr. CYWE, Centerville Youth Orchestra and Honor Band, as well as various District honor bands.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Baker has performed with numerous ensembles in the region including Cincinnati Chamber Opera, Queen City Opera, Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony, Richmond Symphony Orchestra and School House Symphony. This past fall, she performed the Chaminade Concertino as the featured soloist with the MSJU University Band.

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, Dr. Baker completed a master’s degree at the same institution. A native of Texas, Dr. Baker attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Applied Flute and studied with Marianne Gedigian. Her principal teachers include Jack Wellbaum, Bradley Garner, Marianne Gedigian and Karl Kraber.

Dr. Baker has performed at flute conventions across the United States. She has presented and performed at the Mid-South Flute Fair and the Kentucky Flute Society Fair in addition to adjudicating the live rounds for the Central Ohio Flute Association Competitions. Dr. Baker was a winner in the Masterclass Competitions of the 2011 National Flute Association convention and has also been a finalist in the Kentucky Flute Society’s Young Artist and Orchestral Audition Competitions where she won 3rd and 2nd prize, respectively.
