Bio

Gera Nelson is thrilled to join the faculty at the Morehead State University’s Ernst & Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education as an assistant professor. She is originally from Brazil but has lived in the United States for the last 31 years. She holds a doctoral degree in Education in Curriculum and instruction (Literacy concentration) from Georgia Southern University (GSU); a master’s degree in Middle Grades Education (Language arts and Social Studies) from Georgia Southwestern University (GSW); a BA in Journalism from FAFI University in Brazil; and an ESOL Endorsement from Valdosta State University (VSU).

In her previous higher education experience, she worked at Asbury University where she taught graduate and undergraduate classes, engaged on relevant scholarly activity among other duties.

Gera was also the Director of The Education Graduate Program, and an Assistant Professor at Lindsey Wilson College. Gera has also taught P-12 education in the US for 23 years. Gera enjoys spending time with her husband Wayne and their two sons Matthew & Nathan, gardening, exercising, listening to NPR, rooting for the UK Wildcats, and traveling to Europe and Brazil to visit family and friends.
