Doug Chatham

Department: Mathematics
Doug Chatham is originally from Taylorsville, North Carolina.  He received a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000.  After a year teaching at Wake Forest University, he joined the MSU faculty in August 2001 and has been here ever since.  
Among other things, Chatham has been Faculty Senate chair (2012-13) and interim chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics Department (2015-16).  He is also the host of “Odd Numbers”, a comedy music radio show broadcast by Morehead State Public Radio.

Research Interests:
Chatham's specialization in graduate school was commutative ring theory, but for the past several years he's been working with colleagues and undergraduate students on graph theory related to the classic “n-queens problem” of putting n queens on an n-by-n board so that no two queens attack each other. This work has produced several publications and presentations and a KY NSF-EPSCoR grant.  (See for more information.)
