Richard Blanton

Research Interests: Helped with the statistical analysis of a study conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Michael Dobranski on the positive effects of a new math program in high school vocational classes.
  • Helped capstone students interested in statistical applications, including a study of the association and effects of high school mathematics curriculum on the likelihood of students being required to take a developmental course in college.
  • Veterinary Science - Helped with the statistical analysis of two different research studies in veterinary science.
  • Tutored numerous students enrolled in Math 653, Concepts in the Design of Experiments.
  • Studied the effects of a prison release program and predicted recidivism.  


Richard Blanton was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky and attended Russell High School.  After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he attended Morehead State, graduating in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He taught in public school from 1989 to 1998.  In 1998, Blanton attended and taught at Marshall University.  From 2000 to the present, he has been an instructor of mathematics at MSU.  He plans to earn a Ph.D. in applied statistics.  He has a beautiful wife and son.
