Double Reed Day

Double Reed Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Baird Music Hall.

Double Reed Day will feature Morehead State University’s Dr. David Oyen, professor of music, performing on bassoon and Dr. Thomas Pappas, assistant professor of music, performing on oboe. The 2019 oboe guest artist is Dr. Ashley Barret (University of North Carolina-Greensboro); and the bassoon guest artist is Dr. Thomas Breadon Jr. (Phoenix, AZ).
Double Reed Day is held in conjunction with MSU’s Flute Day, featuring Dr. Ellen Mosley and guest artist Nicole Riner.
For all beginner, intermediate, and advanced double reed players. The event is free.



  • Oboe/Bassoon Fundamental Clinics (Topics to include: hand position/posture, breathing, embouchure, articulation, and more).
  • Oboe/Bassoon KMEA All-State Audition Workshop.
  • Double Reed Choir.
  • Performances by MSU students and faculty and guest artists.
  • Visit vendors.
  • Instrument repair session-repair specialist on site for minor repairs and adjustments.
