Difficult Conversations: Changing Stereotypes about Appalachia

Difficult Conversations allows employees to explore complex topics related to diversity and inclusion. This session will discuss Changing Stereotypes about Appalachia.

Historically, the people of Appalachia have been viewed negatively by many outsiders to the regional culture. These negative statements, stereotypes, and microaggressions often result in a misrepresentation of a large population of people in the United States. This difficult conversation will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss these issues. We will also discuss how MSU faculty, staff, and students can work to change these negative attitudes and beliefs.
