MSU Concert Choir: The Creation

The Morehead State University Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Greg Detweiler, will present Joseph Haydn’s The Creation at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Baird Music Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

Widely regarded as one of the great choral masterworks, The Creation is a sweeping oratorio inspired by Genesis, Psalms, and John Milton’s Paradise Lost, depicting the formation of the world across six days. The MSU ensemble will perform Parts I and II, featuring student soloists in the roles of the archangels Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael, accompanied by pianist Shoshana Seid-Green in place of a full orchestra.

The program will also include additional choral selections, opening with William Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus and closing with Haydn’s Abendlied zu Gott, offering a fitting and reflective conclusion to an evening of powerful and expressive music.
