Founded in 1887 as Morehead Normal School, MSU sits in the foothills of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rowan County, Kentucky. “A light to the mountains,” it joined Kentucky’s state-supported higher education system in 1922, was renamed Morehead State College in 1948, and became Morehead State University in 1966.
