ART & DESIGN

The Claypool-Young Art Building with its distinctive architectural style stands out on campus. One feature of the Claypool-Young Building architecture are its north-facing skylights. With most studios situated on the north side of the building Morehead State students have the advantage of working in studios with the north light so prized by artists and designers.

Each area of the program requires special equipment and studio space specific to the teaching of that discipline. For example, the teaching of studio art requires welding and woodworking equipment, pottery throwing wheels, kilns, printing presses, easels and painting storage racks, special drawing tables and much more. Graphic design and computer art require state-of-the-art computer equipment, software programs, scanners, printers and digital photography labs. Art History has a large auditorium with the latest slide projectors, screens and audio equipment for lectures.

MUSIC

Baird Music Hall is the center of activity for undergraduate and graduate music students. It houses multi-media classrooms, large and small ensemble rehearsal halls, teaching studios, practice rooms, a 16-station keyboard-skills laboratory, keyboard practice facilities equipped with both studio and grand pianos and organs, the 400-seat Duncan Recital Hall, and the digital music technology laboratory located in Breckinridge Hall.

The School of Music is supported by a library collection of 7800 scores, 8200 books about music, 4100 recordings, 470 DVDs and videos, and several hundred other non-print items. Other resources include 44 print subscriptions and 17 standing orders for collected editions. The Library subscribes to several music databases for use both on and off campus. The International Index to Music Periodicals provides access to a large number of periodical articles, some in full text. Grove Music Online is a scholarly encyclopedia of music that has long been recognized as an authoritative reference source. More recently, the Library has added subscriptions to Classical Music Library and Naxos, two recording databases for online listening.

THEATRE

The theatre and dance facilities are located in Breckinridge Hall. The hub of theatre activities is the Lucille Caudill Little Theatre, a "black box" venue which can be configured into a variety of stage and seating layouts. Adjacent to the LCL Theatre are the box office, dance studio, classrooms, costume and properties shop, scene shop, dressing rooms, green room, and lighting lab. The theatre has a design/computer lab also located in Breckinridge Hall. For large-scale productions, the performance venue is the 1,000 seat Button Auditorium
