Department of Physics, Earth Science & Space Systems Engineering
From fault lines to black holes—our programs take you deep into the earth, across our solar system, and to the edge of human knowledge. Meet our faculty, explore facilities, and see what you can do with a physics, earth science, or space systems engineering degree.

Focus on Applied Science
Our programs provide theoretical and practical foundations, hands-on learning, and connections to expert faculty and accomplished alumni.
Signature Program in Space Systems Engineering
Our Bachelor of Science in Space Systems Engineering is dedicated to astronautics, or the engineering of spacecraft and space systems. You’ll find only a handful of similar programs nationwide.
As a student, you can join a real small-satellite mission, helping design satellites, guide them into orbit, and track their performance. Or you can help pioneer exomedicine—medical research conducted in zero gravity.
well-rounded Earth Sciences Programs
Our Bachelor of Science in Geology and Earth Systems Science offers preparation for careers in mining, oil and gas exploration, resource management, geologic survey and modeling, and more.
Get an up-close view of geological anomalies at sites across the country (and beyond) plus hands-on laboratory experience.

Space Science Center
The Ronald G. Eaglin Space Science Center is our hub for nanosatellite research, control center for satellite missions, and home to other standout programs.
Discover the Space Science CenterScholarships
Students in our programs get preference for select targeted scholarships.
Internships & Careers
Our students and alumni land opportunities with NASA and top aerospace companies.
