Stephanie Akers

Bio

Stephanie Akers joined the Volgenau College of Education faculty at Morehead State University in 2006, where she operates the Ed. Unit for Child Care Services, coordinates the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, and teaches courses in early childhood education. Reflecting on her work experience as a community based social worker, teacher in infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms, and a developmental interventionist, her interests include social emotional competence of young children, curriculum-based assessment, and educational leadership in special education Ms. Akers recognizes the importance of teacher candidates engagement in the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) developmentally appropriate practices in the field of early education. 

Ms. Akers teaches courses for the Child Development Associate program, as well as undergraduate and graduate IECE students. She teaches Introduction to the Early Childhood Profession, Skills for Preschool Teachers, CDA Practicum, Early Intervention Workshop, Preschool Administration, Guidance for Young Children, Child Observation and Assessment, and At Risk Infants/Toddlers/Preschoolers.
