Gutierrez earns CASE internship

One Morehead State student gained valuable skills and professional experience over the summer thanks to an internship program with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
A marketing major from Florence, MSU senior Monica Gutierrez participated in the CASE Advancement Internship Program. The goal of the program is to increase and diversify the number of professionals in educational advancement. Gutierrez completed the CASE internship at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. During the eight-week internship, she worked in various areas of the university’s advancement office, learning about alumni relations, account management, annual and regular giving, stewardship, fundraising campaigns, major gifts, events, marketing, communications and partnerships. She was assigned a mentor during the internship and networked with professionals and other students interested in advancement in education.
“The CASE Advancement Internship was an awesome experience. I was able to gain much more knowledge of the advancement field and hear from people that are already so successful in their careers. For me the most interesting part was getting to be a part of everything my team was doing without a question,” Gutierrez said. “I was able to travel with them to an Education Advisory Board meeting in Richmond, Virginia. I was able to see something that unless you are part of this specific team, you would probably never know. I want my future career to be in university advancement and development. I don’t know exactly where or in what area I want to focus, but for now I think I have a pretty awesome start.”
Gutierrez has been a member of MSU’s Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) for two years. During the 2018-19 school year, she served as the organizations vice president for membership. Gutierrez also served as the conference co-chair for the 2018 CASE ASAP Network Convention. She will serve as the SAA student engagement chair in the upcoming academic year.
