MSU art exhibit ‘That’s What We Said’ currently accepting submissions

That's What We Said PosterMorehead State University is currently seeking artwork from Morehead artists for an upcoming exhibition.

The juried online exhibition “That’s What We Said” will occur on Jan. 16, 2021. It will be juried and managed by Caitlyn Biggs, a senior from Frankfort in MSU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program. She also developed the concept for the exhibit after taking her arts administration and entrepreneurship practicum. She decided to work with Melissa Yungbluth, instructor of art and design and director of the Golding-Yang Art Gallery, on putting together an online exhibition.

“That’s What We Said” is an exhibit created to shine a light on something positive in a difficult time for many people while emphasizing empowerment and equality. Artists of all ages, races and genders are invited to submit works in all forms of artistic media.

“The purpose behind the exhibition is to promote positivity of any kind. This could be body positivity, celebrating your heritage, etc.,” Biggs said. “I want to have a positive light in a time where times haven’t been that positive for some people with the quarantine and everything else that is going on.”

“This is the perfect time to have an exhibition that celebrates positivity, community and healing,” Yungbluth said. “Caitlyn has done a great job of conceptualizing this show and I look forward to entering my own work into the jurying process.”

Artists will have until Jan. 2, 2021, to enter their artwork. Participants should be at least 18 years old and either Morehead residents or Morehead State University students, staff and faculty.

“I think that it is going to be a positive experience for the artists involved because it is completely free to enter, as well as a chance to get their art recognized within the community,” Biggs said. “It is also something that they can add to their resume to help them in their future careers.”
