Former MSU employee Debra Reed dies at age 68

MSU mourns the loss of former counselor Debra Reed (Class of 1974) of Morehead, who died Wednesday, May 5, at age 68. 

Reed began her career at MSU in 1978 and retired in 2005. She continued to work part-time at MSU after her retirement until December 2007.  She earned a bachelor’s degree from MSU in 1974 and a master’s degree in 1977. 

Survivors include nieces Lisa Fortner (Ben) of Huntington, West Virginia, and Gwen Pate (Doug) of Huntersville, North Carolina, and her great-nieces and nephews, Marshall, Michele, Michael and Matthew Fortner and Sydney and Noah Pate.    

Reed was preceded in death by her brothers, John Reed of Oak Hill, West Virginia and Jack Reed of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Patsy Coffee of Huntersville, North Carolina; sister-in-law Donna Reed; brother-in-law, Louis Coffee and best friend, Belva Sammons.  

At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral services.
