MSU Delta Gamma Chapter celebrates Founder’s Day, establishes scholarship

More than 160 Delta Gamma (DG) alumni and active student members from Morehead State University gathered on campus to celebrate the Founder's Day of the Delta Omicron Chapter.

Some of the weekend's events included a welcome reception at The Venue on Main Street, a luncheon in MSU's newly renovated Adron Doran University Center, a memorial service, campus tours and a reception and dance. These events provided members with the opportunity to learn about the chapter today and get involved with alumni chapters.

Debbie Mahalik (Class of 1983) volunteered to serve as the event's primary coordinator. Mahalik and several other volunteers collaborated with the MSU Alumni Association to host the event on campus.

"We are excited to celebrate 50-plus years of Delta Gamma on the campus of MSU," Mahalik said. "Over 1,110 women have become DGs at MSU in the last 50 years. It was exciting to see sisters from all over the US return to Morehead to help us celebrate. Here's to 50 more years."

Alumni members established the Delta Gamma Book Scholarship Endowment in celebration and honor of more than five decades on campus. The Delta Gamma Book Scholarship will support initiated members of the Delta Omicron Chapter in reaching their educational goals. Since establishing the fund, almost $3,000 has been raised to support this endeavor. The Delta Gamma Book Scholarship Fund will continue to grow through generous contributions from alumni members.

Delta Gamma is a women's fraternity and a member of the National Panhellenic Conference, the umbrella organization of 26 women's fraternities. Founded in 1873 nationally, Delta Gamma has 150 collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae chapters. MSU's Delta Omicron Chapter was chartered in 1969.
