Activities planned for MLK Day

news-thumb-mlk.webpMorehead State University will host several events Monday, Jan. 15, to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Events planned to commemorate King include:

  • Mt. Sterling/Montgomery County MLK, Jr. luncheon. The event will be held at the Clay Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The guest speaker is Dr. Vaughn Little, an administrator in the Jefferson County Public School system. A bus will leave from the Howell-McDowell Administration Building on MSU’s main campus at 10:15 a.m. to transport those who would like to attend.   • The King holiday is a National Day of Service. Several volunteer opportunities in the Rowan County area are planned for 2-4 p.m. For more information, contact Atkins by Jan. 9 at

  • A movie screening and discussion of the animated film “Our Friend Martin” is planned for 6 p.m. in the ADUC theater. Weather permitting, a campus march will occur immediately following. MSU will be closed for the holiday. Administrative offices will be closed, and classes will not meet.

The University Store and the Camden-Carroll Library will also be closed.

The University Post Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Recreation and Wellness Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
