Board of Regents recognizes faculty, staff and students at meeting

The Morehead State University Board of Regents met Friday, March 29, in the Adron Doran University Center.

Following a meeting of the audit committee, the board recognized faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Jen O'Keefe, professor of geology and science education in the Department of Engineering Sciences, was recognized for her academic contributions. O’Keefe leads the OPaL Lab at Morehead State University, which focuses on training Craft Academy for Excellence in Science & Mathematics students and undergraduate students to answer a wide variety of questions about past ecosystems and climates and current environmental issues using a variety of microscopic and geochemical techniques.

Lora Pace, who recently retired as director of first-year programs, also was recognized for her years of service. She won the Distinguished Staff Service Award in 2013 and served as staff regent, and as chair and vice chair of Staff Congress.

The MSU Cheer Squads, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Soccer, and Women’s Golf teams were also recognized at the meeting.

The new Student Government Association Executive Board was also introduced. They are:

  • Hannah Albright, secretary of internal affairs-elect, junior, Carlisle, KY
  • Bailey Bullock, secretary of campus involvement-elect, freshman (Craft Academy alumni), Mount Vernon, KY
  • Thomas Clem, secretary of public relations-elect, freshman, Louisville, Ky
  • Jaylei Jimison, vice president-elect, sophomore, Russellville, OH
  • Brady Lawson, president-elect, junior, Ezel, KY

The board voted on several consent agenda items, including:

  • Ratifying Personnel Actions
  • Approve Faculty Tenure, Promotions and Sabbaticals
  • Approve Athletics Contract
  • Approve University Endowment Match
  • Approve Revision to SGA Constitution
  • Approve University Audits

The board also voted on several recommendations, including:

  • Approve Second Quarter Financial Report
  • Approve Tuition, Fee, and Housing Rates for 2024-2025
  • Approve New Fee Categories
  • Approve Plan for Razing of Facility

The board entered a closed executive session to discuss matters relating to the future disposition of real estate.

Upon its return to regular session, the board also approved the disposition of property.

The board heard updates on the status of a bond sale to finance a new residence hall, academic year 2024-25 meal plans, personal service contracts, and legislative action related to the University.

The next Board of Regents meeting is Friday, June 14.
