Morehead State Spring Commencement is May 11  

The commencement ceremony for spring 2024 graduates will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, in the Academic-Athletic Center (AAC).  

The 10 a.m. ceremony will recognize graduates from the Ernst & Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education, and the College of Science & Engineering.  

The 2 p.m. ceremony will recognize graduates from the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and the Elmer R. Smith College of Business & Technology.

The event will not require tickets for guests or graduates, and there is no limit on the number of guests who may attend. Guest seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and the venue will not mandate social distancing. Department of Music, Theatre & Dance students and faculty will provide special music.  

The student speakers for the 2024 Spring Commencement are Jack Leith and Hannah Curreri. 

Joseph "Jack" Leith of Ironton, Ohio, is the commencement speaker for the College of Science & Engineering. He is the son of Dr. Joe Leith and Tara Leith. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences.  

Leith was a battalion commander at MSU ROTC. He earned the Organic Chemistry Yoda Award in May 2022 and the Outstanding Biomedical Student Award in March 2024. Leith also earned the Superior Cadet Award, recognizing the top cadet in the ROTC program, in May 2023, and the Distinguished Military Graduate Award in December 2023, a national award given to the military’s top university seniors. 

Hannah Curreri of Winchester is the commencement speaker for the Elmer R. Smith College of Business & Technology. She is the daughter of Laura McCoy and Thomas Curreri. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance Area and General Management Track.  

Curreri has been an MSU Women's Golf Team member since August 2020 and is utilizing her eligibility to play golf for a fifth year next year. She was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll during the 2021-22 season and the 2022-23 season, and she earned the inaugural OVC Community Service Award and the OVC Medal of Honor. Curreri was also named to the inaugural Presidential Community Engaged Eagles list, which recognizes students participating in service projects with community partners. She is working on earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Morehead State in May 2025. 

The Spring Commencement will include the commissioning of ROTC officers:   

  • Ashanti Banks - Hopkinsville, KY  
  • Gabriel Barcus - Kitts Hill, OH  
  • Joseph "Jack" Leith - Ironton, OH  
  • Samantha Munchback - Hanson, KY  
  • William Orton - Centerville, TN  

In addition to the Spring Commencement ceremony, these events will also honor MSU graduates:   

The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science & Mathematics will graduate 53 students in the Class of 2024 at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the ADUC Ballrooms

The Craft Academy graduation speaker is Jennifer Nguyen from Carter County. She is the daughter of Cindy Ngo and Wayne Nguyen. She plans to pursue a career in biomedical engineering at Boston University (BU). 

Nyugen is one of 70 students nationwide selected to the BU Kilachand Honors College. She is also a semi-finalist for the U.S. Presidential Scholarship Program.
