MSU’s Celebration of Student Scholarship is April 17  

Morehead State University students will showcase their academic research at the 18th Annual Celebration of Student Scholarship. It takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC).  

Faculty, staff, students, community members, and alumni are welcome to attend the event to engage with our students and see the showcase of their scholarly and creative pursuits.  

The schedule for the Celebration of Student Scholarship includes: 

• 7:45-8:45 a.m.: Oral Session Registration  
• 9-9:50 a.m.: Oral Presentations – Session 1  
• 10-10:50 a.m.: Oral Presentation – Session 2  
• 11-11:50 a.m.: Oral Presentation – Session 3  
• 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: Poster Session Registration  
• 1-3 p.m.: Poster Presentations  
• 3-4 p.m.: Poster Break Down  
• 4-5 p.m.: Awards Ceremony   

“We have a total of 155 presentations that includes 267 students and 114 faculty mentors,” said Alexis Mathews, coordinator of undergraduate research. “The participation numbers are steadily rising, and we hope to see the event continue to grow so we can get back to pre-COVID numbers.”  

Mathews said that while students tend to present academic research, they will also present their creative works. Students active in community engagement, internships, education abroad, or Level UP experiences are encouraged to contribute and share their experiences.  

“This event shows a symbiotic relationship between students and faculty, showcasing the power of collaboration and mentorship in pushing boundaries of knowledge and creativity,” Mathews said. “Engaging in these sorts of hands-on experiences helps students build their career and technical skills. Presenting the work in a public setting helps to grow a culture of inquiry, innovation, and life-long learning.”  

Initiated in the Spring of 2006, the Celebration of Student Scholarship shares and spotlights the outstanding work of students involved in research, scholarship, creative work, and performance arts to the campus community. The day-long event consists of presentations, exhibitions, and performances by students from the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, College of Science & Engineering, Elmer R. Smith College of Business & Technology, and the Ernst & Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education.  

All undergraduate and graduate students working with faculty on scholarly endeavors within their discipline (research, creative productions, community engagement, etc.) are encouraged to present their work annually as an oral or poster presentation. In addition to independent research projects, the event welcomes submissions that reflect undergraduate research experiences, community engagement, internships, education abroad, or Level UP experiences.
