Eagles gain a professional edge at Etiquette Networking Dinner

Morehead State University continues to prepare its graduates to succeed in the professional world. The Center for Career Development & Experiential Education (CCDEE) hosted its annual Etiquette Networking Dinner on April 23 at the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC). Over 80 students eager to enhance their professional networking skills and learn how to navigate a three-course meal attended the event.

The Cabinet for Health & Family Services, The Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), and Nucor sponsored the event.

The event began with a networking hour, where recruiters and professionals from various fields connected with students who were practicing different networking techniques. Representatives from Gateway Area Development District and UK King's Daughter's Medical Center were also there, along with MSU faculty, who shared valuable networking tips.

During the three-course meal, attendees received valuable insights and expert guidance from guest speaker Terri Thompson, an Etiquette Institute graduate. The Etiquette Networking Dinner provides students with a platform to practice these skills in a professional environment with guidance. This formal training boosts students' confidence in professional social settings.

"We enjoyed participating in the etiquette dinner at Morehead State University and the opportunity to network with students. This event allows students to highlight their accomplishments to date while learning professional skillsets to help advance their careers after graduation," said Michelle Caudill, talent coordinator with Nucor Steel West Virginia.

Employers at the event emphasized the importance of introducing oneself, projecting a professional image, and demonstrating basic etiquette, which can significantly differentiate a candidate during the hiring process.

Megan Boone, director of the CCDEE, expressed the center's commitment to student development.

"The Etiquette Networking Dinner plays a crucial role in our mission to foster the professional growth of MSU students, offering them a platform to refine their networking skills, connect with actively hiring employers and gain valuable insights into professional etiquette," she said. "These experiences are integral to our mission of preparing students for success in their future careers."
