Gilpatrick Estate gift makes transformational impact

The Morehead State University Foundation is honored to highlight the scholarship endowment made possible by Patty Havens Gilpatrick.

An eastern Kentucky native, Gilpatrick designated a generous portion of her estate to support students pursuing an education at Morehead State University. The gift created a scholarship for future MSU students from Morgan County, Kentucky, who have financial need and uncovered college expenses. The scholarship may be renewed up to three times if the student maintains good academic standing.

Those close to Gilpatrick shared that she could not attend college due to financial limitations. Her foresight and estate planning will enable others to do something she could not.

"Ms. Gilpatrick's generosity blew us away," said Allison Caudill (Class of 2005, 2009), executive director of alumni relations and development. "Her estate gift, which we anticipated would be at least $25,000, was actually valued at over $750,000. A scholarship endowment at this level will support Morgan County students for generations to come."

The Patty Havens Gilpatrick Scholarship Endowment is one of hundreds of privately funded scholarships available for application via the MSU Foundation Scholarship application at moreheadstate.academicworks.com. Incoming and current students are encouraged to apply for available scholarships each year.
