Newest Alumni give back with Graduating Class Gift Program
Morehead State University’s recent graduates are making an immediate impact as alumni donors through the Graduating Class Gift Program.
Each year, MSU’s Office of Alumni Relations & Development asks graduating seniors to make a gift in honor of their class year (a gift of $20.25 for the Class of 2025) that supports the Graduating Class Scholarship. This scholarship goes to a student staying at MSU to pursue graduate education. Students who give to this scholarship receive a blue cord to wear at commencement, a “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle” display and recognition on social media.
This year, 90 students from the Spring 2025 graduating class participated as donors.
Sydnee Wellman (Class of 2023), coordinator for young alumni and campus development, said the program has been around for years but more and more students are getting involved.
“This tradition helps kickstart a habit of giving back that sticks with students long after graduation. Starting that connection early makes the shift from student to alum feel a lot more natural,” Wellman said. “In the end, it’s all about Eagles helping Eagles. These gifts help open doors, create opportunities, and support the next generation of students chasing their goals at MSU. And we love seeing our grads be a part of that.”
This year’s Graduating Class Scholarship recipient is Aliya Frisby of West Liberty. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and plans to earn a master’s through MSU’s 4+1 program. She plans to pursue her passion for environmental and conservation biology to work in a state or federal agency.
“After my master’s, I am prepared to participate in seasonal positions to build experience or open the door to a long-term position,” Frisby said. “I am dedicated to the field of environmental biology, and whatever position I choose, I want to make an impact on preserving and appreciating the diversity and beauty of our world.”
