Morehead State Board of Regents approves plan to increase student scholarships and transform campus
The Morehead State University Board of Regents held its quarterly meeting on Friday, June 20, approving several key initiatives aimed at supporting students and transforming campus facilities.
One of the most significant actions was the adoption of the University’s 2025-26 operating budget, which includes an increase in student scholarship funding.
“MSU is fully committed to keeping tuition low and serving our students in every way possible,” said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan. “These additional scholarships will go a long way in helping us keep college accessible and affordable.”
The board also received an update on the University’s Facilities Master Plan, which outlines the vision for continued campus transformation. From residence hall improvements to academic space upgrades, the plan is designed to improve the overall student experience and meet the evolving needs of the MSU community.
The meeting also included recognition of outstanding faculty and staff. Dr. Lindsey Barrett and Dr. Shelley Sadler (Class of 2005) of the Department of Nursing were honored for recently completing their Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees.
Melody Trumbo (Class of 2022), marketing manager for Aramark, was recognized for her exceptional contributions to campus dining. A graduate from Manchester, Ohio, Trumbo first connected with MSU as a middle school student during the Tri-State Middle School Band Clinic. As a student, she majored in strategic communication and was active in marching bands, concert bands, and saxophone ensembles.
Today, she leads major branding efforts for campus dining, including the launch of Slice restaurant and the renovation of the POD into Eagle Market. Trumbo also manages Aramark’s social media and has built strong partnerships with student groups like SGA and CAB, always engaging with students to enhance the dining experience.
Additional agenda items included acceptance of third-quarter financials, approval of academic promotions, updates to University policy, and a resolution honoring outgoing Student Regent Brady Lawson (Class of 2025).
The board concluded an executive session to discuss the potential sale of real estate, with no action taken during the closed session.
