Morehead State hosts Governor's Scholars Program

Morehead State University has been selected as a host campus for the Governor's Scholars Program (GSP). This is MSU’s 15th year as a host campus. The University will welcome this class of 360 scholars on Saturday, June 14.

Established in 1983, the Governor's Scholars Program is a residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students who have completed their junior year in high school. GSP provides academic and personal growth in a challenging, nontraditional environment that balances a solid liberal arts program with a complete co-curricular and residential life experience. Students attending GSP must complete an application and compete with others from the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge.

MSU first welcomed GSP in 2006. Centre College and Murray State University are also hosting GSP students this summer. Morehead State will also serve as a host school for GSP from 2026-2028.

Various activities are planned for the students' five-week stay on campus, including a Family Day on Saturday, June 28, and a banquet on Thursday, July 17. GSP will conclude with a closing ceremony on Friday, July 18.

Randy Manis (Class of 2006, 2009), coordinator of summer camps at MSU, said he is thrilled to welcome these academically exceptional Kentucky high school students to campus.

"Many of the Commonwealth's brightest young minds descend upon our campus each June, ready to embark upon a summer of self-discovery," he said. "MSU is honored to host this prestigious program once again, allowing us an opportunity to invest in Kentucky's future while showcasing the vibrant learning environment we offer."
