Morehead State names ADUC ballrooms in memory of Dr. Sue Luckey
Morehead State University has announced the naming of the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) Ballrooms in memory of the late Dr. Sue Y. Luckey, a beloved faculty member, retiree and lifelong supporter of the University. The recognition also honors a generous planned gift to the MSU Foundation, ensuring Luckey’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Luckey joined the MSU business faculty in 1963 and quickly became a cornerstone of the campus community. Over her distinguished career, she served as chair of the former Department of Information Sciences in the College of Business and directed the University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. She was also a dedicated advisor to numerous student organizations and an active member of the Faculty Senate and other key University committees.
A visionary leader, Luckey was instrumental in founding the MSU Retirees Association, which has since become a national model for similar programs across the country. Her commitment to MSU extended far beyond retirement, as she and her late husband, Dr. George “Mac” Luckey, remained deeply engaged in campus life and philanthropy.
Following Mac Luckey’s passing in 2020, Sue further solidified her commitment to MSU by establishing the Dr. Sue Y. Luckey Scholarship for Business and the Dr. George M. Luckey Honors Student Enrichment Endowment. In 2024, she was honored with the Morehead State University Founders Award for University Service, recognizing her decades of exceptional contributions.
Luckey passed away in February 2025 at the age of 90. Through her estate plans, she named MSU as her primary beneficiary. Her estate will now fund scholarships to support students for generations to come.
“The naming of the ADUC Ballrooms in memory of Dr. Sue Luckey is a fitting tribute to a woman whose impact on this institution is immeasurable,” said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan. “Her legacy of service, leadership, and generosity will continue to shape the lives of our students and the future of Morehead State University.”
The Dr. George M. Luckey Honors Program already bears her husband’s name, and this recognition ensures that Dr. Sue Luckey receives equal and well-deserved recognition for her extraordinary contributions to MSU.
