Career & Internship Fair is Oct. 8

Morehead State University is committed to helping our students succeed by providing opportunities to connect with potential employers.

The Fall Career & Internship Fair is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) ballrooms. MSU students and alumni from all majors are encouraged to attend.

At MSU's Career & Internship Fair, you can connect with regional, state, and out-of-state employers and graduate programs while learning about full-time and part-time jobs, internships, co-ops, and graduate schools. Students who attend the Career & Internship Fair can also receive a free professional headshot that they can use on their LinkedIn page and other social media accounts.

“We’re grateful for the employers and graduate programs who choose to come to campus and recruit our students. Their presence at the fair underscores the strong connection between our students’ career skills and the workforce needs of our region and beyond,” said Megan Boone, director of the Center for Career Development and Experiential Education. “Whether students are looking for a full-time job, an internship, a graduate program, or simply want to practice introducing themselves, the Career & Internship Fair is a valuable step in launching their career."

Rebecca Wright, coordinator of internships, said this event is a great opportunity for students to potentially gain real-world experience prior to graduation.

"Remember that the fair is a Career & Internship Fair. Employers are offering more than just full-time jobs,” Wright said. “Landing an internship can be just the ticket to launch your career by building relevant experience in your field.”

First- and second-year students can also benefit from attending. Avery Hendrixson, a middle grades education major specializing in social studies and language arts, has participated in the Career & Internship Fair since her first year and has really enjoyed networking with school systems.

"There are so many organizations at the fair. You aren't going to have many opportunities to network like this after college," Hendrixson said. "Plus, I took advantage of the free professional headshot while I was there."

Students should prepare to make the most of their time at the Career & Internship Fair. This includes:

  • Dressing professionally
  • Bringing copies of your resume
  • Planning a proper introduction
  • Researching companies and schools in attendance

A new Career & Internship Fair feature is an Employer Panel from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in ADUC 329. This event is geared toward first-year students to learn what career skills employers seek in employees. Topics covered include in-demand career skills and what they wish they had known in college to set them up for career success. Students attending will receive tips to make the most of the event, followed by a guided Career & Internship Fair tour.

Potential employee recruiters can now register for the Career & Internship Fair. Attendees can download the free Symplicity Jobs and Careers app on Google Play and Apple App Store and find out who they can meet at the fair.

MSU's Center for Career Development & Experiential Education helps students access numerous resources geared toward their success. The CCDEE offers opportunities to gain real-world experiences through education abroad, undergraduate research, service learning, internships, and work-study positions.
