Morehead State Public Radio Fall Fundraiser is Oct. 6-10

Morehead State Public Radio’s Fall Fundraiser and Membership Drive is Oct. 6 – 10. The annual fall event invites listeners to support WMKY, public radio from Morehead State University.

Financial gifts to Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) support student work-studies, local programming, and daily operations.

Supporters may also designate gifts to MSPR’s Enhancement Fund, providing scholarships to qualified students studying at Morehead State University. Established in 2022, the MSPR Enhancement Fund has awarded $30,000 in student scholarships.

“2025 marks WMKY’s sixty years of broadcasting from Morehead State University and we’re nearing the end of our year-long celebration,” Paul Hitchcock (Class of 1988), general manager said. “We hope to hear from long-time listeners, friends, former students, and colleagues of WMKY.”

WMKY’s full-time staff also includes Greg Jenkins (Class of 1996), operations director, and Samantha Morrill (Class of 2016), news director.

Part-time community program hosts include:

  • Grant Alden - “Grant Alden’s Field Notes”
  • Becki Alfrey (Class of 2012, 2017) - “Bluegrass Diversion”
  • Doug Chatham - “Odd Numbers”
  • Carolyn Franzini - “A Time for Tales”
  • Tyler Kline (Class of 2013) - “Modern Notebook”
  • Anabel Peterman (Class of 2024) - “Pickin’ Parlor”

In addition, a dozen Morehead State University students are currently involved as news reporters and studio announcers. Since 1965, more than eight hundred students have worked at WMKY, with many pursuing their careers as leaders in broadcasting, communications, media, and associated fields.

“We’re continuing the tradition of involving students in every aspect of WMKY,” said Hitchcock. “Student learning is important to their career goals and vital to WMKY’s daily operations.”

Financial gifts to the MSPR Fund support student work studies and local programming. Gifts to MSPR’s Enhancement Fund provide scholarships to qualified students at Morehead State University. Gifts to either the MSPR Fund or the MSPR Enhancement Fund may be made online at: www.wmky.org.
