Eagle Essentials Expands Emergency Support Resources
Morehead State University is expanding its commitment to student well-being by enhancing access to emergency resources through the Eagle Essentials Pantry, a vital initiative supporting students facing food insecurity and other urgent needs.
Located in the Adron Doran University Center, Eagle Essentials now offers Grab and Go Meals on Wednesdays and Fridays, allowing students to conveniently pick up fresh meals from a stocked fridge during operating hours. This new addition complements the pantry’s existing offerings and reflects MSU’s ongoing efforts to meet students where they are.
In response to growing demand, MSU, in partnership with Aramark Dining Services, has also launched a Meal Swipe Donation Program, allowing students with traditional or commuter meal plans to donate up to two meal swipes per week. Donations are accepted every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Prefontaine Pub.
Students may claim a needed meal swipe by visiting Eagle Essentials during their regular operating hours.
“We’ve seen more need this semester than ever before,” said Sydnee Wellman (Class of 2023), campus development coordinator. “The increase in students seeking emergency assistance has been eye-opening, and we’re grateful for the campus-wide collaboration helping us respond quickly and compassionately.”
Departments including Housing, Student Affairs, the MSU Police Department, and the Student Alumni Ambassadors are actively supporting pantry restocking and emergency assistance efforts.
To encourage participation, MSU is offering incentives:
- MSU PD: Parking ticket forgiveness in exchange for donations. (Nov. 1 through Dec. 1)
- Housing: One lockout charge waived per qualifying canned food donation. (Nov. 4 to Dec. 4)
Community members, alumni and friends of MSU can support Eagle Essentials by donating to the MSU Foundation. Contributions directly fund emergency food, hygiene items, and other critical resources for students in need.
“These resources are more than just food and supplies—they’re a reminder that our students are seen, supported, and valued,” said Melisa Patrick (Class of 1983), director of student activities and programs.
Eagle Essentials Operating Hours (closed on weekends):
- Monday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday: Closed
- Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Friday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
As the holiday break approaches, MSU is working to ensure that Eagle Essentials remains fully stocked to support students who stay on campus during this time. With many dining locations closing or operating on limited hours, access to meals and necessities can become more difficult for students.
To help meet these needs, Eagle Essentials invites donations and community support to keep the campus pantry well-prepared throughout the break. Every contribution helps ensure that no student goes without essential items, comfort or care during the holiday season.
