Magnifico Family creates MSU scholarship fund
Morehead State University is proud to announce the establishment of a new scholarship endowment created by alumni Ray (Class of 1968) and Carol Magnifico (Class of 1969) to commemorate their 57th wedding anniversary and a lifetime of love and loyalty to MSU.
Ray Magnifico, originally from Belleville, New Jersey, first came to Morehead State on the recommendation of a high school classmate. During his time as a student, he met Carol Collins of Paintsville. After graduating, the couple married and began their careers in education and accounting, eventually settling in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where Ray served as a guidance counselor at St. Rose High School and Carol worked as an accountant.
Throughout their lives, the Magnificos remained deeply connected to MSU, returning to campus often and volunteering their time. Upon retirement, Ray coordinated alumni reunions during Homecoming for over a decade, growing the group from a dozen classmates to more than 50 alumni from across the country. In recognition of his dedication, Ray received the MSU Alumni Association’s Eagle Spirit Award in 2018.
To celebrate their 57th anniversary in 2025, Ray and Carol chose to leave a legacy by creating a scholarship endowment at the University where their love story began.
“This scholarship is about paying it forward,” Carol said. “MSU gave us an education, lifelong friendships, and each other. We hope this gift helps future students create their own success stories, and maybe even their own love stories, on this campus we cherish.”
The Magnifico Scholarship will support students from Carol’s home county of Johnson County. Graduates from Paintsville High School and Johnson Central High School are eligible to apply.
