KCTM director nominated for prestigious bluegrass music award
Daxson Lewis (Class of 2016), director of the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music, was nominated for Banjo Performer of the Year at the 2026 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America Music Awards.
This award celebrates excellence in bluegrass and traditional music by honoring performers, educators, and industry professionals who have made significant contributions to the genre.
“It is an honor to be mentioned alongside the other nominees in this category,” said Lewis. “They are all deserving of this award, and I look up to each of them.”
Lewis adds this reflects not only his individual artistry, but also his impact as an educator and mentor preparing the next generation of traditional musicians.
"I have dedicated my life to the study, performance, and preservation of these musical styles, and I feel immensely blessed to share that passion with our students at the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music,” Lewis said.
The event was held in Nashville on Saturday, January 24. This was the second time Lewis has been nominated.
