WMKY Spring Membership Drive begins March 23
Morehead State Public Radio’s Spring Fundraiser and Membership Drive is Monday through Friday, March 23-27. The annual spring event invites listeners to support WMKY (90.3FM), public radio from Morehead State University.
Financial gifts to Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) support students, local programming, and daily operations.
Supporters may also designate gifts to MSPR’s Enhancement Fund to provide scholarships to qualified MSPR students studying at Morehead State University. Established in 2022, the MSPR Enhancement Fund has awarded more than $36,000 in student scholarships.
Thanks to listener support, MSPR is growing in ways that deepen its service to eastern Kentucky while expanding meaningful learning opportunities for Morehead State students. MSPR has also expanded international news coverage with the addition of BBC World News.
“MSPR is pleased to present BBC World News from American Public Media. We’ve also added cultural programming such as A Way with Words, Fiesta, and Jazz and The American Spirit,” said General Manager Paul Hitchcock (Class of 1988). “Our diverse weekend program schedule features Americana, bluegrass, blues, Celtic, folk, and jazz music with an emphasis on musicians, songwriters, and storytellers,” added Hitchcock.
Part-time community program hosts include:
- Grant Alden, “Grant Alden’s Field Notes”
- Becki Alfrey (Class of 2012, 2017), “Bluegrass Diversion”
- Doug Chatham, “Odd Numbers”
- Carolyn Franzini, “A Time for Tales”
- Anabel Peterman (Class of 2024), “Pickin’ Parlor”
In addition, more than 20 Morehead State students are involved as writers, reporters, editors, and announcers. Since 1965, more than 800 students have worked at WMKY, many of whom have pursued careers as leaders in broadcasting, communications, education, marketing, media, and related fields.
“MSPR is continuing the tradition of involving students in every aspect of broadcasting,” said Hitchcock. “Student learning is important to their career goals and vital to WMKY’s daily operations.”
Financial gifts to the MSPR Fund support student work studies and local programming. Gifts to MSPR’s Enhancement Fund provide scholarships to qualified students at Morehead State University.
