Morehead State celebrates experiential learning leaders
Morehead State University recognized students, faculty and staff with the annual Experiential Education awards during the Celebration of Student Scholars on April 15, highlighting the impact of experiential education across campus.
Hosted by the Center for Career Development & Experiential Education, the annual awards celebrate individuals and organizations that create meaningful, real-world learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and prepare students for future careers.
"These award recipients represent the very best of experiential education, where learning goes beyond the classroom and transforms into meaningful action," said Andrew Sexton (Class of 2020, 2022), coordinator of service learning. "Through mentorship, creativity, and a deep commitment to community, they demonstrate how hands-on experiences shape not only career readiness, but also a lasting sense of purpose and impact.”
The 2025 award recipients are:
- Student Intern of the Year: Elijah Loiacono, a sophomore studio art major from Burnside
- Internship Faculty of the Year: Senior Instructor of Journalism John Flavell (Class of 1987)
- Internship Employer of the Year: Senior Associate Director of Athletics Kenna Gauche (Class of 2008, 2009)
- Community Impact Award (Faculty): Assistant Professor of Social Work Dr. Rebecca Davison (Class of 2023)
- Community Impact Award (Staff): Associate Director of Talent Search Katelyn Harvey (Class of 2018, 2022)
- Community Impact Award (Student): Jared Hunter McGlone, senior chemistry education major from Olive Hill
Each honoree reflects the University’s commitment to experiential education, connecting classroom knowledge with real-world application through internships, service learning and community partnerships. These experiences help students build career-ready skills while making meaningful contributions both on campus and beyond.
