Morehead State’s Alexis Mathews Selected for National Undergraduate Research Leadership Role
Alexis Mathews (Class of 2017, 2019), coordinator of undergraduate research at Morehead State University, has been elected to serve as a Division Representative for the Council on Undergraduate Research, a national organization dedicated to advancing undergraduate research opportunities.
Mathews will represent the Undergraduate Research Programs Division, serving as a key liaison between the organization and its members and helping support undergraduate research initiatives nationwide.
“I am honored to be elected as a Division Representative. I look forward to meeting with other representatives and sharing our successes with and learning from them,” Mathews said.
As a national leader in undergraduate research, CUR sets a high standard for experiential learning in higher education, focusing on providing high-quality, collaborative undergraduate research, scholarly, and creative activities. Division representatives play a key role in cultivating a vibrant and forward-looking community that advances opportunities and innovation in undergraduate research.
“Alexis is working hard to build a strong undergraduate research program at MSU, ensuring our students build valuable career skills such as communication and critical thinking as they engage in research or creative projects with their faculty mentor. This role provides an opportunity for her to represent Morehead State University at the national level while setting best practices within the field of undergraduate research,” said Megan Boone, director of the Center for Career Development & Experiential Education.
Mathews will attend ConnectUR, the annual conference, in June to meet the cohort and was chosen to give a presentation titled "Growing an Undergraduate Research Program at a Non-Research, Regional University." She’ll also serve on a panel focused on best practices for statewide collaborative events, such as Kentucky’s Posters at the Capitol research showcase.
