Morehead State hosts Governor's Scholars Program
Morehead State University has once again been selected as a host campus for the Governor's Scholars Program for the 16th year. The University will welcome 340 scholars on Saturday, June 13.
Established in 1983, the Governor's Scholars Program is a residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students who have completed their junior year in high school. GSP provides academic and personal growth in a challenging, nontraditional environment that balances a solid liberal arts program with a complete co-curricular and residential life experience. Students attending GSP must complete an application and compete with others from the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge.
MSU first welcomed GSP in 2006. Murray State University and Centre College are also hosting campuses for GSP students this summer.
Various activities are planned before the students' arrival and during their five-week stay on campus:
- 2025 Scholar Reunion – Tuesday, June 9
- Family Day – Saturday, June 27
- College Fair – Monday, July 13
- Thank-You Letter Writing – Tuesday, July 14
- Final Banquet – Thursday, July 16
Randy Manis (Class of 2006, 2008), coordinator of Camp Services at MSU, said welcoming these academically exceptional Kentucky high school students to campus is a beneficial experience for both the scholars and the MSU campus community.
"Hosting GSP allows the University to showcase the vibrant learning environment we have to offer as scholars immerse themselves in a focus area, general studies course, and leadership seminar," he said. "MSU is excited to have many of the Commonwealth's brightest young minds join us on campus this summer."
Morehead State offers two scholarships for alumni of the Governor's Scholars Program: The Governor's School for the Arts and the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs.
The Governor's Award is worth $32,000 ($8,000 annually for 4 years of study) for students with an ACT score of 23 and a 3.5 GPA. The Governor's Award+ provides full tuition for students with a 25 ACT score and a 3.5 GPA entering Fall 2026.
The Governor's Awards cannot be stacked with other general merit scholarships, but we encourage scholars to explore other MSU Foundation scholarship opportunities.
