Morehead State announces 2026-27 SGA executive officers

Morehead State University has announced its 2026-27 Student Government Association executive officers, who were sworn into office during the annual SGA Student Choice Awards Banquet in the spring.

The newly elected executive officers are:

  • President: Molly Boyd, a senior finance major from Prestonsburg.
  • Vice President: Elizabeth Dalton, a senior community support services major with a minor in child development from Somerset.
  • Secretary of Internal Affairs: Owen Marcum, a junior marketing major with minors in public relations and event planning from Ashland.
  • Secretary of Public Relations: Mary Claire Sims, an accounting major from Owensboro.
  • Secretary of Campus Involvement: Claire Holbrook, a business management major from Olive Hill.

As president, Boyd will lead the Student Government Association's efforts to represent the student body and advocate for initiatives that enhance the student experience across campus and serve as the student representative on the MSU Board of Regents.

"It genuinely means a lot to be elected as the next student body president. I see my job as being a good listener,” she said. “I'm here to show up and pay attention to what you have to say and make sure student voices are heard. This University isn't just buildings or programs; it is all of the people in those buildings and programs. Student experiences, student voices and student ideas - that is what makes Morehead State special."SGA Officers 2026

Boyd previously served as SGA secretary of public relations during the 2025-26 academic year after serving as junior representative the previous year. In addition to SGA, she serves as vice president of programming for Panhellenic, president of Order of Omega, and president of Tau Sigma. She is a member of the Kappa Tau chapter of Delta Zeta.

Dalton previously served as a sophomore SGA representative and as a member of the Student Court. She has also held leadership roles on the Public Relations and Campus Involvement committees and currently serves as vice president of external recruitment for the MSU Panhellenic Executive Board, vice president of Order of Omega and is a member of Chi Omega and the MSU Pre-SLP Club.

Marcum has served as SGA secretary of internal affairs, vice president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, a resident advisor, director of internal affairs for the Interfraternity Council, and secretary for Order of Omega.

Sims previously represented students as an at-large representative in SGA, where she served on the Public Relations Committee. She is also vice president of finance for the University's Delta Zeta chapter and enjoys helping students become more engaged with campus life.

Holbrook previously served as freshman representative and chief of staff in SGA during the 2025-26 academic year. She also served on the Campus Involvement Committee and is active as a Student Alumni Ambassador and vice president of Future Business Leaders of America.

Outgoing SGA President Thomas Clem reflected on his time serving the student body as he welcomed the University's newest student leaders.

"Being SGA President has been one of the most meaningful experiences," said Thomas Clem (Class of 2026), outgoing SGA President. "This role honors the leaders who came before me and left the tools and guidance for me to have the confidence needed to be a successful student advocate. Now, it is time for me to step aside and make space for new voices, new ideas, and new leadership. The momentum is strong, and I am excited to see what the future holds as I continue to follow along as an MSU Alumni."

The Student Government Association serves as the official voice of the student body, advocating for student interests, supporting campus initiatives and fostering leadership opportunities that strengthen the Morehead State community.
