Ribbon cutting and open house for Prefontaine Hall scheduled for Aug. 7
Morehead State University is proud to announce the completion of its newest residence hall, Prefontaine Hall. The University and local communities are invited to join campus leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, followed by an open house.
Announced in 2024, the new residential facility will house 310 students across four floors and features modern amenities designed to foster comfort, accessibility and community. Rising Sun Development and its partners led the construction of Prefontaine Hall.
The residence hall is named in honor of Morehead State alum Andy Prefontaine (Class of 1971) and his family, whose generosity and commitment continue to make a lasting impact on the University. As a student, Prefontaine was deeply involved on campus, serving as a member of Morehead State ROTC's first commissioned graduating class and as the final president of the Aquila Club. Following graduation, he built a successful career in recreational product retail and eventually became owner and CEO of Family Leisure.
Andy and Debbie Prefontaine have made transformational contributions to Morehead State, including support for the Andy and Debbie Prefontaine Scholarship Endowment. Through their philanthropy, they are helping to create opportunities for future generations of Eagle students, providing access to the same life-changing educational experience that helped shape Andy's own success.
The naming of Prefontaine Hall stands as a lasting tribute to the family's legacy and dedication to Morehead State University.
“Both this new residence hall, along with the Prefontaine family financial support, will go a long way in supporting our students with new housing and scholarships,” said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house are open to the public. Morehead State University is excited to celebrate this new chapter in residential life as MSU prepares to welcome the first residents of Prefontaine Hall later this August.
