Morehead State receives $50,000 grant for new Nuclear Medicine Technology program
Morehead State University has received a $50,000 grant to enhance its Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology program, supporting the University's efforts to prepare highly skilled imaging professionals for Kentucky's healthcare workforce.
The funding was provided through the Kentucky Board of Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy and administered by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). The award was made through a competitive request for proposals to support Kentucky-based educational programs in nuclear medicine technology. The initiative is designed to increase the number of qualified professionals entering the state's healthcare workforce.
The new Nuclear Medicine Technology bachelor's degree track, housed within MSU's Imaging Sciences programs, will prepare students for careers using radioactive materials to diagnose and evaluate a wide range of medical conditions. Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and clinical experience needed to administer radiopharmaceuticals and perform advanced imaging procedures that help physicians detect and treat disease.
"The imaging sciences programs sponsored by Morehead State University are pleased to announce a new program offering. The new program will be an additional bachelor's degree track in imaging sciences. The track is in nuclear medicine/positron emission tomography. The program will prepare students to administer radioisotopes for the diagnosis of disease and illness," said Jennifer Clark (Class of 2013, 2014), assistant professor of Imaging Sciences and program director for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
The grant will help support the continued development of the program as the University prepares to welcome its first class of students. By expanding its academic offerings in medical imaging, Morehead State continues to strengthen the healthcare workforce pipeline for Kentucky and the surrounding region.
Nuclear medicine technologists play a vital role in modern healthcare by combining advanced imaging technology with specialized pharmaceuticals to diagnose diseases, evaluate organ function and assist physicians in developing treatment plans. The addition of the program gives students another pathway into a high-demand healthcare profession while helping meet the growing need for qualified imaging professionals.
