Morehead State University Receives $1 Million Federal Grant for Water Rehabilitation Project
Morehead State University has received a $1 million federal grant to support a water rehabilitation project that will strengthen critical infrastructure serving the campus and surrounding community.
The funding was announced Aug. 12 by U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers during an event in Hazard highlighting more than $30 million in infrastructure investments across Eastern Kentucky. The grant was secured through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 531 Infrastructure Program, a federal initiative designed to improve access to clean water and reliable wastewater services throughout Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District.
The Morehead State University Water Rehabilitation Project will support repairs and upgrades to the University's aging water system, helping ensure dependable service for students, employees and visitors while positioning the campus for continued growth in the years ahead.
"This investment in our infrastructure will help ensure that Morehead State University continues to provide a safe, reliable and sustainable campus environment," said Dr. Jay Morgan, president of Morehead State University. "We are grateful to Congressman Rogers and our federal partners, including the Corps of Engineers, for recognizing the importance of this project."
During the announcement event, Congressman Rogers emphasized the importance of infrastructure investments in creating opportunities and supporting economic development throughout Eastern Kentucky.
"This project aligns with Morehead State University's ongoing commitment to investing in campus facilities and infrastructure that support student success and regional growth," Morgan said. "From academic and student-centered improvements to critical utility and infrastructure upgrades, we are transforming our campus to meet the needs of future generations. This water rehabilitation project is an important part of that broader vision as we continue educating the workforce of tomorrow and contributing to the economic vitality of our region."
