MSU students to explore battlefield archaeology at Blue Licks
Morehead State University students and faculty will join community members at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, for a public history event examining what archaeology can reveal about the battle fought there in 1782.
Often described as the last battle of the American Revolution, the Battle of Blue Licks was a devastating defeat for the Kentucky militia. The event will allow visitors to explore the park’s Pioneer Museum and hear from Dr. Adrian Mandzy, professor of history, who will discuss battlefield archaeology and what it teaches us about frontier warfare in North America.
Visitors can join MSU students for lunch and conversation at the park’s Hidden Waters Restaurant. Weather permitting, students will conduct a metal detecting survey at the park in the morning. Associate Professor of History Dr. Benjamin Fitzpatrick will join Mandzy and MSU students for the event.
A limited number of MSU students can participate at no cost. A vehicle provided by the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science & Mathematics will depart campus at 8 a.m. and return by 6 p.m. Students can reserve a seat by calling 606-782-1612.
