‘Ghosts & Gunfire’ brings Morehead’s haunted history to life Oct. 27

Morehead State University’s Camden-Carroll Library and community partners will bring local history to life with “Ghosts & Gunfire: A Haunted History of Morehead,” a guided ghost walk on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The free, family-friendly event begins at 6 p.m. at MSU’s Little Bell Tower, with participants gathering on the library’s front lawn. Open to all ages, the walk will take participants through campus and downtown Morehead, exploring the people and events that shaped the University and surrounding community.

Presented in collaboration with the Rowan County Veterans Museum and Rowan County Public Library, the walk combines Halloween storytelling with local history. Participants will learn about Morehead’s sometimes dark past and how its legacy continues to resonate today.

"The ghost walk is a fun seasonal event that also introduced participants to various historical events that have shaped the town and university we have today," said Instructional Librarian for Outreach, Distance & Online Learning Josh Blevins (Class of 2012). "It is a fun, informative, and educational event that will help bring the entire community together while shining a positive light on Morehead State."

The guided walk is expected to last approximately one hour, with event activities scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Downtown businesses will offer special drinks, sales and crafts to commemorate the walk and welcome Halloween.

Some other participating sponsors and community partners include Fuzzy Duck & CoffeeTree Books, Sawstone Brewing Company, Holbrook’s Pharmacy, WhimziWorks and others.

Glowsticks will be provided. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
